The Texas A&M women's tennis team beat the Alabama Crimson Tide, 7-0, Tuesday night at the Varsity Tennis Center in front of 329.

The match was played as part of a double-header with the Aggie men who also faced Alabama. The women's match used the scoring system common to the men's dual matches in attempt to be more accommodating to the fans.

The Aggies found themselves down in the doubles round, but they kept fighting and ultimately swept all three matches in route to claiming the lone doubles point.

"In doubles, I thought we were a little hesitant," A&M head coach Bobby Kleinecke said. "We weren't scared, tight or not ready. They just got the emotion going. They had a little lead, but we stuck in there. They made some errors and let us back in."

Quickly, the Aggies grabbed four straight-set wins to take their second straight win.

"We needed to establish ourselves in singles," Kleinecke said.

Freshman Olivia Karlikova scored first she ousted the Tide's Dominique Glinzler, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, while fellow freshman Cassie Haas defeated Millie Begovic, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3.

With the Aggies leading 3-0, senior Kathryn Scott clinched the overall victory with a 6-3, 6-2, win with over Becca Baum at No. 6.

Sophomore Martina Nedorostova added another A&M victory with a 6-4, 6-2, decision over Weyli Chang at No. 1.

Lisa Dingwall then beat Alabama's Jenny Ketchum, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 4, while A&M's Leah Killen took a third set win over Selia Mathew, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3, at No. 5.

For the Aggies, they were playing the men's scoring system for the first time.

"It was neat for the fans," Kleinecke said, "It really had no bearing on the match. When you can put two teams on at the same time, at the same facility, that's good. We are fortunate to have a facility that can do this for the fans."

The Aggies improve to 8-7 overall.

A&M will host No. 4-ranked Pepperdine Friday at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center as part of a double header with the Aggie men who will also face Pepperdine.
