The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team faces off against the Texas Longhorns in a State Farm Lone Star Showdown matchup at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

The Aggies (1-0 overall, 1-0 vs. Big 12) will look to cut into the Longhorns’ lead in the year-long battle between the two flagship state universities. Texas (3-0 overall, 1-0 vs. Big 12) currently leads the competition with a 3-1 point advantage.

“I’m excited and I think the team is very excited,” Aggie head coach Steve Bultman said. “It’s one of those meets that is a toss-up. It’s going to be a matter of which team performs the best and I expect both teams to compete at a very high level. I expect there to be some outstanding swims and some really tight races. It’s going to be a matter of which team gets their fingertips to the wall first the most times.”

The Aggies and Longhorns have already faced off once this season, albeit not in a dual meet situation at the Big 12 Relays. At the Relays in Columbia, Mo., last month, the Aggies scored 109 points to emerge victorious in the all-relay meet. Texas was second with 103 points in the hotly contested competition.

“I think this rivalry brings out the best in both teams,” Bultman said. “We’re excited to step up and race against some very strong competition.” Live results can be accessed at: http://www.tsc.utexas.edu/results/index.htm, and live video of the meet can be accessed at: http://all-access.cbssports.com/player.html?code=tex&media=149908
