July 28, 2010
Former Texas A&M swimmer Julia Wilkinson won the women's 200-meter freestyle at the 2010 Canadian Summer National Championships on Wednesday at the Saanich Commonwealth Place. Wilkinson's national championship highlighted the day for a large continent of competitors with ties to Texas A&M as former, current or future Aggies. Wilkinson, who was Texas A&M's first swimming NCAA Champion earlier this year, won the 200 free in a time of 1:58.95. Five other current Aggies or incoming freshmen earned evening swims, with three in "A" finals and two in "B" races. Competing in "A" finals were sophomore Tess Simpson in the women's 100 backstroke (4th, 1:02.42), future freshman Kyle Troskot in the men's 50 butterfly (5th, 25.28), senior Melanie Dodds in the 200 fly (8th, 2:16.09). Seeing action in the "B" finals were incoming freshman Paige Miller in the women's 50 fly (10th, 27.80) and sophomore Kendra Chernoff in the 50 fly (11th, 27.88) and the 200 fly (14th, 2:16.31).
