Oct. 18, 2008
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Holly Ridley's grand slam in the bottom of the sixth frame gave the Maroon team a 12-1 run-rule victory over the White team in the second game of the Maroon & White series on Friday afternoon at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Sugar Land, Texas, native went 5-for-6 with two runs and seven RBI in the two-day game that was originally delayed by heavy rain on Wednesday. Maroon plated seven runs in the sixth inning alone, the final six being scored with two outs on the board. Ridley's teammate, sophomore Natalie Villarreal, crossed home four times on two hits and recorded one RBI of her own. Maroon pitcher sophomore Rhi Kliesing also tallied two hits and three runs. White catcher and senior Erin Glasco earned the sole run for her team after reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring on a double by freshman Taryn Broussard. The teams are 1-1 in the intrasquad scrimmage and a game at 4 p.m. on Monday will determine the overall winner of the series. The scrimmage is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
