 Dyer Named Big 12 Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Dyer was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The Germantown, Tenn., product earned the honor after posting her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season over Nebraska and Iowa State, totaling seven saves. Her save percentage (0.889) and goals-against average (0.493) lead the Big 12 and are ranked ninth and 12th in the nation, respectively.

Dyer was selected for the conference award for the third time in 2008, a feat no other Big 12 player has accomplished this season. Former A&M soccer player Ashlee Pistorius is the only other Aggie to be named player of the week three times in a single season.

Dyer is A&M's eighth Big 12 Player of the Week in seven weeks of competition. This team effort breaks the Aggies' previous record of six such honors in one season. The last players to receive a weekly award were senior Laura Grace Robinson (Offensive Player of the Week) and freshman Becca Herrera (Newcomer of the Week) on Oct. 7.

A&M soccer moved up in the national polls to No. 6 this week after blanking two more Big 12 opponents.

The Aggies are back in action on Friday as Kansas hosts the back-to-back-to-back-to-back Big 12 Champions at 4 p.m. in Lawrence, Kan. A&M returns home on Sunday for a 1:35 p.m. kickoff with No. 20 Missouri. The match airs live on ESPNU from College Station, Texas.
