COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M women's basketball team held a Maroon and White open scrimmage in front of a crowd of close to 250 fans Saturday morning at Reed Arena.

Preseason Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year Danielle Adams, a 6-foot-1 junior forward/center from Kansas City, Mo., led the Maroon squad with a team-leading 20 points that included two three-pointers from downtown. Kelsey Assarian, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward from Naples, Fla., added 12 points and eight rebounds, while team co-captain Adaora Elonu, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward from Houston, Texas, turned in a scrimmage-high 15 boards including five on the offensive end.

Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention and top returning player Tanisha Smith, another Kansas City product, dished out five assists and Kristi Bellock, a 6-foot-1 freshman forward/guard out of St. Rose, La., made three blocked shots in her unofficial Aggie debut.

"Basketball season is here," said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair who enters his seventh season in Aggieland. "It wasn't our finest hour, but I saw a lot of positives out there on the court, especially from Danielle Adams. She was able to show us her inside and outside game today. I was also impressed by Kelsey Assarian and Skylar Collins.

"Overall, it was a good scrimmage for us and we appreciate all of our fans coming out to watch us play on an early football game day. We will continue to work long and hard in practice and prepare for our upcoming exhibition game against Oklahoma City University on Nov. 12 and home opener against No. 6 Duke on Nov. 15."

The Aggies played six 10-minute periods including two against their men's practice squad. The team also distributed posters, signed autographs and took the opportunity to pose for pictures with fans after the scrimmage.
