Krajicek and Dadamo Move Past First Round at ITA National Indoors
Nov. 5, 2009
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Texas A&M's top doubles tandem of junior All-American Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) and junior Jeff Dadamo moved past the first round of play at the prestigious ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Thursday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Krajicek and Dadamo, both left-handers from Florida, defeated Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen of Harvard by an 8-5 count in the opening round of 16. The pair earned an automatic bid to the fall tournament as the Wilson/ITA Texas Regional doubles champions. They improved to an undefeated 6-0 on the season and will take on the top-seeded, top-ranked and NCAA runner-up Tennessee duo of J.P. Smith and Davey Sandgren tomorrow morning in quarterfinal action beginning at 8 a.m. (CT). "Austin and Jeff had a very solid and competitive match today," Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. "They feel confident playing indoors and are hitting the ball well. Obviously, it will be a tough match tomorrow against the NCAA doubles finalists from a year ago, but it will be a good opportunity for them to play one of the better doubles teams in the country early on in the season." In the singles draw, preseason No. 30-ranked Krajicek fell to third-ranked Robert Farah of defending national champion USC, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 32. Consolation play continues tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (CT). "Robert (Farah) served very well throughout the match," Denton said. "Austin lost serve once in each set and that was the difference. He just couldn't put enough pressure on Robert's serve today."
