COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football team will continue its preparation for the 2009 season by kicking off spring practice Thursday. "I'm really excited about this spring, about getting our guys out there and being able to teach them," Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. "We're working on getting our guys to believe in themselves and each other so that they can go out there and play a tough Big 12 schedule." The practices will lead up to the annual Maroon and White Game, that will be held Saturday, April 18 in conjunction with Texas A&M's Parents' Weekend. In a slight change from recent years, the Aggies will also conduct three practices the week after the spring game. Texas A&M returns 48 letter winners from last year's young squad including nine offensive starters, seven defensive starters and five specialists. The returnees include four All-Big 12 selections and five players that were named Freshman All-Americans. The Aggies welcome back two of their top three tacklers from 2008 as well as several offensive returnees that combined to account for 75% of their total offense last season. All spring practices are open to current Aggie students and faculty and anyone wearing an Aggie Ring.
