Under Coach Shelby Metcalf, A&M went on to a 26-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, where it lost in overtime to eventual champion Louisville. *A&M is 10-16 against current members of the Big Ten but has won four straight. The last time the Aggies played a Big Ten team was when they beat Ohio State (70-47) in the championship game of the 2007 preseason NIT.
Key Game Notes *Minnesota (4-1) is ranked No. 16 in both polls (AP and ESPN/USA Today). The Golden Gophers are the third top-20 team A&M has faced in four days in the 76 Classic. A&M has played three straight games against ranked teams in non-conference play once before in its history, but never in a four-day span. In 1978-79, the Aggies played four straight ranked teams, beating No. 15 UNLV (101-99) and No. 19 San Francisco (68-65) to win the Golden Gate Invitational, then upsetting No. 11 Kentucky (73-69) in the first round of the Wildcat Invitational the following week. The Aggies lost the title game to No. 15 Illinois (71-57). *A&M plays at No. 14 Washington Dec. 22 in the Big 12/Pac 10 Hardwood Series. *A&M has played in 106 regular-season tournaments and has won 18 titles. The Aggies went 1-1 last year in the South Padre Island Invitational, losing to Tulsa and beating Kent State. A&M won the 2007 Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, beating Washington and Ohio State at New York City's Madison Square Garden. *A&M Coach Mark Turgeon is 32-3 in regular-season non-conference games at A&M, including wins against Arizona, Washington, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU. The losses were at Arizona in 2007-08, to Tulsa in the 2008 South Padre Invitational, and on Friday to West Virginia. *A&M's juniors and seniors are very familiar with Anaheim. The Aggies lost to then-No. 1 UCLA (65-62) in the 2006 Wooden Classic and also played the first and second round games of the 2008 NCAA Tournament in Anaheim. All three games were played at the Honda Center. In the 2008 NCAAs, A&M upset No. 23 BYU (67-62) then lost to No. 2-ranked and top-seeded UCLA (51-49) in a controversial finish. *A&M assistant coach Bill Walker served as an assistant at Minnesota from 1999-07 under Dan Monson and helped recruit several players on the Golden Gophers' roster.

A&M, which led by as many as four points in the first half, used a 6-0 run to narrow the deficit to 67-63 with 1:08 left. But after Butler converted a free throw, Ebanks stole the ball, was fouled on a slam dunk and made the ensuing free throw to extend the lead to 71-63 with 42.9 seconds left.
