HOUSTON (AP) - Josh Carter scored 19 points and Bryan Davis added 16, including two key baskets down the stretch, and Texas A&M beat LSU 72-61 on Saturday.

It was the sixth straight win for the Aggies (10-1) and the first loss of the season for the Tigers.

The game was the second half of a doubleheader at the Toyota Center and was the first away from home for LSU (8-1). No. 19 Michigan State beat fifth-ranked Texas 67-63 in the first game.

The Aggies fought off a late surge from the Tigers, who got within two points with about 3 minutes to play. Davis scored two straight baskets after that to stretch the lead to 63-57.

A&M Notes: *Josh Carter scored 19 points, his sixth straight game in double figures. Carter made a career-best 11-of-13 from the free throw line.A&M is 66-11 when Carter scores in double figures. *Bryan Davis tied his season high with 16 points, making 6-of-8 field goals, and grabbed 6 rebounds. A&M is 18-3 when Davis scores in double figures. *Donald Sloan scored 11 points and tied his season high with 7 rebounds. He also tied his career-best with 3 steals. *Mark Turgeon is 3-0 against LSU in his career, posting wins in each of the last three seasons. *Turgeon is 35-12 at A&M, the second-best coaching start in Big 12 history through 47 games. *A&M has won five straight against teams from the Southeastern Conference. *A&M made 73.3 percent from the field, its sixth straight game over 73 percent. *The Aggies had a season-low 6 assists. *A&M made 50.0 percent from the field, the third time this season the Aggies have shot better than 50 percent. *A&M made a season-best 50.0 percent (4-8) from three-point range.
