TUCSON, Ariz. - The back-to-back Big 12 champion Texas A&M baseball team earned a No. 9 ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Fab 40 preseason poll, the publication announced Monday.

The Aggies, who received 473 points, are the highest rated Big 12 team in the poll. LSU tops the rankings, followed by North Carolina, Rice, Georgia and Stanford. Arizona State sits at No. 6, with Florida State, Louisville, A&M and Texas rounding out the top 10.

The No. 9 ranking is the highest for A&M in the poll's preseason edition in 15 years, when the 1994 squad opened at No. 7.

Five Big 12 teams were ranked in the top 25. Joining the Aggies and Longhorns were No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Baylor and No. 22 Missouri.

Four opponents on A&M's non-conference slate appeared in the poll, including the third-ranked Owls, No. 13 Cal State Fullerton, No. 20 UC Irvine and No. 37 TCU. The Aggies are scheduled to play 17 games in 2009 against teams that appear in the Fab 40.

Defending national champion Fresno State was ranked 16th.
