COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M head baseball coach Rob Childress announced Tuesday the signing of two local student-athletes to national letters of intent.

Outfielder Krey Bratsen (Bryan) and pitcher Derrick Hadley (Navasota) both are slated to join the Aggie baseball program in the fall of 2010.

Bratsen, a right-handed hitting outfielder, is a two-time all-Brazos Valley selection by The Bryan-College Station Eagle who plays for coach David Powers at Bryan High School. Bratsen earned second-team All-State honors in 2009 from the Texas Sports Writers Association after hitting .471 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs, 25 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. He also compiled a 3.13 ERA in 13 innings of work on the mound, striking out 26.

The son of Karen and James Bratsen, Krey played for the West team in the 2009 Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic at San Diego's PETCO Park in August. His father was a three-year letterwinner for Coach Tom Chandler's Aggie baseball team in the mid 70s, leading the team in RBIs in each of his three seasons.

"Krey is a tremendous athlete," associate head coach Matt Deggs said. "He plays hard, loves to compete and is very gifted. He touches on all five tools, possesses tremendous speed and has a great arm. He's got a very high ceiling and is just a guy that really fits our style of play."

Hadley, a right-handed pitcher, is a three-year starter for Navasota and coach Calvin Barber. Named the team's most valuable player and District 24-3A Defensive Player of the Year this past spring, Hadley was a second-team All-Brazos Valley honoree by The Bryan-College Station Eagle. He went 7-2 on the hill with a 1.43 ERA, striking out 66 batters in 41 innings of work while tossing a pair of no-hitters--one coming against second-ranked Taylor. Hadley also hit .443 with a pair of home runs.

The son of Debra and Bill Hadley, Derrick was a top-10 honoree at the Team One West Showcase this summer in southern California.

"He's mature beyond his years from a pitchability standpoint," Childress said. "He's got a mean streak in him, plus he's got the ability to command the baseball with three different pitches. He's going to make an immediate impact on our pitching staff. He could help us right now. We feel very fortunate to have him in our program."

The remainder of A&M's fall signing class is expected to be announced later this week.
