Seely Joins Aggie Baseball Staff
July 22, 2008 COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Justin Seely has joined the Texas A&M baseball program as a volunteer assistant coach, Aggie head coach Rob Childress announced Tuesday. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Seely was a starter on the Huskers’ College World Series squads in 2001 and 2002. At A&M, he will work with the outfielders, coach first base and assist with on-campus recruiting. “We’re truly excited to have Justin as our volunteer assistant,” Childress said. “We have had incredible people in that position in the past, and he will continue that tradition. Justin’s expertise and attitude will make our program better in every way. He is a winner from the word go, and we feel very blessed to welcome him and his wife Tara into our family.” Seely comes to Aggieland from Texarkana College, where he spent the 2008 season on the staff of former A&M volunteer assistant Will Bolt. Seely replaces Andy Sawyers, who was named an assistant at Kansas State last month. “I’m very excited about this opportunity and the chance to work with Coach Childress and this staff,” Seely said. “I’m really looking forward to helping this program reach its ultimate goal of winning a national championship.” The Nacogdoches native joined Bolt’s staff after two years as a volunteer assistant for Mike Anderson at Nebraska, where he worked with the outfielders and assisted with the hitters. Seely spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as an assistant coach at Paris (Texas) Junior College for Head Coach Deron Clark. At Paris JC, he worked with the position players, helped run the team’s offense and served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. In addition to his experience in the junior college ranks, Seely also coached with the Parkville (Mo.) Sluggers in 2003. For two summers, he coached the 17 and 18-year-old teams for the Dallas Mustangs, one of the top Connie Mack programs in the country. The Huskers’ starting outfielder and designated hitter during his two years in Lincoln, Seely made 87 starts and hit .355 with 11 homers and 65 RBIs. His best season came in 2002, where he hit .320 with 19 doubles, seven homers and 37 RBIs in helping Nebraska return to the College World Series. Seely began his collegiate career at Northeast Texas Community College, where he was a two-year starter for the Eagles—playing his final season there under current Aggie assistant Jeremy Talbot. Seely, received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Nebraska in 2003, is married to the former Tara Hill.
