21 Aggies set for NCAA Indoor Championships

Fayetteville, Arkansas - Another championship weekend has Texas A&M in the hunt to challenge for NCAA titles as the collegiate indoor track and field season concludes this weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the University of Arkansas campus. The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 12-13 with the Aggies in action starting at 5:30 p.m. each day. A live stream will be available on www.ESPN360.com each evening as well as supplemental coverage via NCAA.com. ESPN2 will telecast the meet on Wednesday, March 17 at 12:30 p.m. Central time. With a total of 21 athletes (11 women, 10 men), including relay alternates, qualified for the national championship meet, Texas A&M has quality and depth in the sprints, hurdles and jumping events to contend for top honors this weekend. With the NCAA announcing the Championship field late Monday evening, the group of Aggie men entered in the meet includes Tabarie Henry (400), Bryan Miller (400), Curtis Mitchell (200), Gerald Phiri (60), Demetrius Pinder (400), Julian Reid (triple jump), Zuheir Sharif (triple jump), Tyron Stewart (long jump / triple jump) as well as the 4 x 400 relay (Tran Howell, Kyle Dykhuizen).
For the A&M women the entries include Jessica Beard (400), Ashika Charan (triple jump), Dominique Duncan (200), Porscha Lucas (200), Gabby Mayo (60 meters, 60 hurdles), Natasha Ruddock (60 hurdles), Jeneba Tarmoh (60, 200), Vashti Thomas (60 hurdles, long jump, triple jump) as well as the 4 x 400 relay (Donique' Flemings, Andrea Sutherland, Sandy Wooten). This season both Aggie squads have spent time ranked No. 1 in the country. The A&M women were a preseason No. 1 and enjoyed four weeks atop the rankings. They have been ranked second behind Oregon the past three weeks. The Aggie men, a preseason No. 8, improved to No. 4 before taking over the top spot for five straight weeks. The A&M women finished as team runner-up a year ago when the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the Aggie campus served as host. Texas A&M totaled 37 points, just five shy of team champion Tennessee, and improved upon a then team best finish of seventh place from the 2008 meet. The Aggie men placed ninth with 23 points, securing a second consecutive top 10 finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
