Aggie men and women are No. 1 in nation

College Station - Following a weekend of action that included four school records for the Texas A&M men, the updated rankings from USTFCCCA have the Aggies No. 1 in both national team rankings. The Texas A&M women, No. 1 since the preseason rankings, maintained their position for another week while the Aggie men moved up from No. 4. In the women's rankings the top five teams include: 1. Texas A&M; 2. Oregon; 3. BYU; 4. LSU; 5. Tennessee. The men's top five includes: 1. Texas A&M; 2. Florida State; 3. Oregon; 4. LSU; 5. Florida. Tabarie Henry was selected the Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week after he won the 400 at the Texas A&M Challenge with a world leading and school record time of 45.81 seconds. Later in the meet Henry ran the third leg of the Aggies 4 x 400 relay which set another school record with a world leading 3:04.86. Last week Jessica Beard was honored by the Big 12 along with the Texas A&M men's 4 x 400 relay. Earlier this season Porscha Lucas and Demetrius Pinder were honors by the conference. Currently in the 2010 indoor season the Aggies have six collegiate leading marks from Porscha Lucas (23.06) in the 200, Jessica Beard (52.27) in the 400, Curtis Mitchell (20.69) in the 200, Henry (45.81) in the 400, Julian Reid (53-11.75) in the triple jump as well as the men's 4 x 400 relay (3:04.86).
After hosting three consecutive collegiate meets at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, the Aggies will travel to New York City this coming weekend for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held at the Armory. The A&M women have captured the team title two of the past three seasons and return as the defending champions. |
