POSTMATCH NOTES
Ole Miss will meet seventh-seeded UCLA in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 16 at 5 p.m. (CT). The Rebels were one of eight men’s quarterfinalists (Georgia, Texas, Virginia, USC, Baylor, Ohio State and UCLA) in College Station that matched the exact same field of eight from the 2008 Championship in Tulsa, Okla.
POSTMATCH QUOTES
Ole Miss Head Coach Billy Chadwick
“That was great tennis on that court (No. 1 singles). Devin (Britton) has established himself as one of, if not the top, freshman in the country. We’re No.2 in the nation, and a lot of that has to do with Devin’s play in both singles and doubles. It was a hard-fought match on both sides. Through the stretch of the match, A&M really picked it up and it took everything that we had to find a way to win. We beat a very good Texas A&M team tonight.”
Texas A&M Head Coach Steve Denton
“We needed to win the doubles point and I knew they were really good in doubles. We needed to figure out a way to win either two or three and we weren’t able to do that tonight. It’s pretty tough to lose five and six in the doubles and expect to win against a really good team like Ole Miss. They were just a little bit better and played the big points better than we did.”
Texas A&M Senior Conor Pollock
“We had a really good season. I definitely like playing on these courts, I feel very comfortable playing here. I just beat a really good player rather comfortably, so that will help out my confidence (in the individual tournament). Hopefully, I can keep it going.”
