POSTMATCH QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Matt Knoll
“I thought the doubles wasn’t particularly well played. We were fortunate to win it, because they served for the doubles point. We had to dig down deep to fight to win that point. In singles we had a couple of guys really play well. We all know if you can do that and get some momentum, you can do well. Denes (Lukacs) was in control of his match the whole time. I was proud that he was staying hungry, going for the second break and not just being satisfied. In these conditions, when you feel confident in your conditioning and the longer you can keep people out there, the better.”
Baylor Junior Denes Lukacs
“There is always momentum if you win the doubles point. A 1-0 lead at the end of the season could always be the deciding point. In the end, even if you don’t win the doubles point, you still have six really good players to win four singles points against a team. It’s big, it’s momentum, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that we cannot win it if we lose it.”
Wake Forest Head Coach Chris Brandi
“It was probably a typical Sweet 16 match. The doubles point was huge. When you’re up 7-5 serving for the doubles point and lose, it’s disappointing. It turned out to be the point that killed us. They (Baylor) were too good today at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. They just blew us out. All of the other matches, we felt like we should have won. When you don’t win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles that really hurts, especially when your No. 1 team wins every match. It’s not like they earned it, we just gave it (the doubles point) to them. In singles, I thought we fought hard, but overall, we have a very disappointed group who felt that we gave it away today.”
