POSTMATCH QUOTES

USC Head Coach Peter Smith

“You can see how close we are. There is not much that separates us – a tiebreaker at third, at two, and a tie breaker at No. 1 doubles. I mean it was just so close. I loved how we competed the whole time. I wasn’t nervous because all you can control is how your team is doing. Our team looked so great, because we were fighting and doing all the right things. So if you lose in that situation, then hey, they’re too good. I always think in the NCAAs that everyone is going to have a great attitude. It just comes down to talent, belief and a little bit of conditioning. I think everybody is in good condition and everybody is so good. It was a lot of fun. I had a blast out there.”

Stanford Head Coach John Whitlinger

“This was a typical USC versus Stanford match this year. It went right down to the wire. I had a feeling the doubles point was going to be very important and it was. We just barely lost that point. I’m very proud of my team and the way that they competed. A lot of credit to USC, the job that they’ve done and the way they’ve competed. The best team won today and I wish them the best as they move forward.”
