“I played pretty well. He (Duke’s Kiril Dimitrov) is a good player and I think that I did a good job out there. I’m just ready for tomorrow. The first match is always difficult, because you have to get used to the courts and surroundings. I felt that everything worked out today. It was a good match.” 

(2) Oleksandr Nedovyesov (Oklahoma State):

“I knew it was going to be a tough match, because I’ve played him (Auburn’s Alexey Tsyrenov) two times before and I’ve never beaten him. I tried my best and worked hard. I tried to come back in the second set, but he broke me early on. I just tried to find my game. I’m getting better and better and finally beat him. It was a pretty good match for me in the beginning. Now, I’m just getting ready for my next matches.” 

(3) Bryan Koniecko (Ohio State):

“It was good. I had to forget a bit about yesterday. I just told myself that I had to stay positive and things would go a little bit better for me. First of all, it’s (the turnaround) not easy on the body and obviously mentally, too. The season is over with for the team, so you have to focus on yourself for a little bit for the one week that you are here and play your own game.” 

(5) Bruno Agostinelli (Kentucky):

“Your first match of the tournament is always tough, that’s for sure. I got out of this one alive. He (Texas A&M’s Wil Spencer) played pretty well today and it was a good match. I just tried to run as many balls down as I could. He had a couple of break points here or there, but I just tried to stay strong mentally and things came through for me. I knew the crowd was going to be rooting for him, but that’s what we are used to in college tennis – everybody rooting against you when you’re not playing at home.” 

(6) John-Patrick Smith (Tennessee):

“It knew it was going to be a tough match. Jean-Yves (Aubone) is ranked 20th, so he just missed out of being seeded. The last time we played, it was 7-6 in the third set and I got up. He is a junior now and has been ranked in the top 10 this season. I know it’s always going to be a grind when we play each other.” 

(7) Michael Venus (LSU):

“Everything just felt good today. I was playing well. I know Austen (Childs) has had a good season. It was a tough match and he is a good player. I was just happy to get through there in straight-set matches. Everything is feeling good. You have to keep tweaking little things to make sure that they keep feeling good. I’m trying to stay hydrated and get out of the sun. I’ve been training pretty hard and it’s been pretty humid down in Baton Rouge the last few weeks. It actually felt nice out there – it didn’t feel too bad.” 

Diego Cubas (South Carolina):

“He (Baylor’s Denes Lukacs) started playing very well. In the second set, I started serving a little bit better. His forehand is really good, so it was tough for me to hit the ball. In the third set, I broke him in the three-all or four-all, and then I just served for the match. I ended the season not playing so well. I lost the last seven or eight matches. Now, I’m feeling a lot better. I won my first match and hopefully, I can win the next match also.” 

Bruno Rosa (Rice):

“Obviously, it was a very good match. He (USC’s Robert Farah) is a very dangerous player. He’s played well the whole season, and for his career, and just won the national championship. He is obviously a really great player and confident. At the beginning of the match, I felt that if I could play as hard as I could the whole match, I could expect him to fall down, because he was a little tired from yesterday. I’m happy I succeeded.”
