“He (Illinois’ Roy Kalmanovich) is a terrific player and I just tried to not make unforced errors. He was all over me, hitting winners from everywhere. In the second set, I knew I had to do a lot more to beat him. I started hitting the ball, taking more risks and lucky for me today they went in.”

(2) Oleksander Nedovyesov (Oklahoma State):

“I’ve played against (Notre Dame’s Brett Helgeson) two times before and beat him. As long as I am following my instincts, I’m just kind of winning easy. I was serving well and I am saving a lot of energy for tomorrow. Yesterday’s games were hard fought and much longer. I was well prepared for today. I stayed tough from the beginning and concentrated on my game the entire time. It’s worked very well so far.”

(5) Bruno Agostinelli (Kentucky):

“I think there were a lot more balls being hit in this (second round) match. There were longer rallies. I had a little bit of a rhythm in the second set, I used my backhand more and came into the net.”

(6) John-Patrick Smith (Tennessee):

“I played real well in the first set. I lost a service game in the second set, he got me down 5-2 and I had to battle back through it and I did. I was down 4-1 in the breaker as well and had to battle through it again. It was a long day and I’m glad I could finish in two (sets). Yesterday, I was seeing the ball a bit bigger than I was today. I was fresh yesterday compared to today. We played during the hottest part of the day, so that was pretty hard as well. Now, I have to get back up for doubles, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Dean Jackson (San Diego):

“I played my match exceptionally well. I just spoke with my coach (David Anderton) and he said it was one of my best matches this season. I was cramping yesterday in the third set with (Justin) Kronauge of Ohio State, so I was kind of concerned with my fitness today. I wasn’t even close to cramping. I felt good, played within myself and it turned out well. I am extremely happy. Last year in the Sweet 16, I knew that I could play at this level. I played against the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the country during the season, both times in three sets. I had my chances to win, so I knew I could hang with anyone. He (LSU’s Michael Venus) is obviously one of the best players in the country, but I knew I had a chance. I took it and won.”

Alex Clayton (Stanford):

“I feel great. I beat (Ohio State’s Bryan Koniecko) last year at NCAAs in Tulsa, so I felt good going into the match. I knew it would be tough. He’s always a tough competitor and I feel really good about advancing. I have been injured for a while, so I feel really confident coming back and doing well in this tournament. I served better than yesterday. I haven’t played a lot of matches recently, so I am getting better every day.”
