COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M finished in 13th place in the 2008-09 Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup with 976 points. This marks the third straight year for the Aggies to finish among the Top 18 universities in the country.

Boosted by three spring national championships, the most national titles by any Division I school this year, the Aggies raced to their second-best finish and point total behind the record-setting performance of 12th place and 1031 points in the 2007-08 competition.

"I am pleased with the overall performance of our athletics department and I am very excited about the three national championships from men's golf, women's outdoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field," Aggie Director of Athletics Bill Byrne said. "As a department, we are not satisfied. We have several areas we need to improve upon and I believe we have the ability to consistently finish in the Top 10 in the nation."

Before 2006-07, A&M had finished in the Top 20 only once and that was a 16th place finish in 2003-04. A&M finished in 18th place in 2006-07 and as stated before finished with a school-record 12th place finish in 2007-08 before the 13th place finish in 2008-09.

The last standings took into account the baseball finish and A&M scored 25 points for finishing third in the Fort Worth regional. The previous standings included results from men's golf (1st for 100 points), men's outdoor track and field (1st for 100 points), women's outdoor track and field (1st for 100 points), women's softball (33rd place for 25 points) and women's rowing.
