Q: What is the cost of the Texas A&M Volleyball Camp? The cost of the Team Camp is $345 per camper. Teams must be comprised of a minimum of 10 players. Coaches are encouraged to attend and will have the option (where eligible) to coach their own teams or to have our staff work with your team. Teams must also bring a coach or chaperone for dorm supervision (we cover the cost of meals and the room) Q: Can you give me a brief description of the camps? All-skills Camp: This camp is designed for the beginning to intermediate player to stress the basic skills required to play volleyball at any level. We will introduce each skill to all players and emphasize the key points that we feel have helped to make the Aggie Volleyball program one of the best in the country. We will also place the campers in team training situations to allow them to apply the skills they have learned and to learn the basics of team play. Campers will be tested when they come into camp and will be grouped with players of like abilities and age. Each group will progress at an appropriate rate for that group. In team training and competition we will try to maximize the groups’ ability to compete by introducing some specialization by position, but we will encourage players to get a feel for each of the positions. The All Skills Camp is aimed at beginners and younger intermediate players. Position Training Camp: Campers will spend approximately 20-25% of their time in position groups (setters, hitters, middles, liberos) doing position specific training. We will also be spending time in our mixed groups and teams doing team training drills that will re-emphasize the work that is done in the position groups. Players will need to sign up in a specific position (we are limiting enrollment by position to allow balanced groups for team training and competition). The emphasis will be on the individual skills by position and then using them in team/game situations. Campers will be tested when they come into camp and will be grouped with players of like abilities and age. Each group will progress at an appropriate rate. The Position Training Camp is aimed at intermediate players. This is not a camp for beginners. Advanced Training Camp: This camp will be run just like a pre-season training camp. We will spend some time with the basic instructions for skills by position and some time with position specific training (as in the Position Camp), but a majority of the time will be spent in “practice sessions”. We will do mostly team training designed to emphasize the demands specific to each position. It is similar to a team camp without having to sign up as a team. The emphasis will be on optimizing team play by improving individual skills in a team setting. Campers will be tested when the come into camp and will be grouped with players of like abilities and age. Each group will progress at an appropriate rate. The Advanced Training Camp is aimed at advanced and advanced-intermediate who have already begun position-specific play with competitive teams. This is not a camp for beginners.
Testing for All-Skills, Position Training and Advanced Training Camps: Campers will be tested on individual skills at the beginning of each camp to help us divide the camp up into working groups. We do not rank the campers from 1 through 150 and just divide them by number and groups 1 through 10. We try to “soften” the edges of each group by dividing the camp into “levels”. At each level we attempt to divide into even groups and teams so that training will be more uniform and the games will be more competitive. We prioritize skill execution, physical ability/attributes, and age factors for sorting players into levels for camp. Team Camp: The Team Camp is designed to help high school teams to get off to a great start for the upcoming season. We will work with the coaches to zero in on key areas to improve and optimize your team’s performance. We will provide instruction on individual skills, team offense and defense strategies and provide competition and competitive training opportunities. We will have question and answer opportunities for the coaches every evening.
