COLLEGE STATION-Texas A&M freshman Courtney
Walker has been selected by the Southeastern Conference as SEC Freshman of the
Week following A&M's road wins over LSU and then No. 12 South Carolina.
Walker was the second leading scorer for the Aggies in each
of A&M's games this week. The Edmond, Oklahoma native was 8-for-10 from the
floor against LSU for 16 points, a conference best 80% shooting for Walker and
the second best in a conference game for an A&M player this year. The
freshman swiped three steals against LSU leading to six A&M points,
including a Walker fast-break layup with less than three minutes to play to
secure the A&M victory.
Against the Gamecocks Walker led the defensive charge that
held South Carolina to a season low 28.1% shooting. Additionally Walker
collected a season high five offensive rebounds, leading to four of A&M's
10 second chance points. Her seven rebounds on Sunday tied for the second most
in a game this year and is best in a SEC game. Walker scored all 10 of
her points on Sunday in the first half to help the Aggies take a six point lead
into the locker room.
