Texas - The Texas A&M men's basketball team hits the road this weekend
for Tuscaloosa, Ala., where it will face Alabama on Saturday in a 5 p.m.
contest at Coleman Coliseum.
The contest will be televised by FSN with Dave Neal
(play-by-play) and Larry Conley (commentary) calling the action. Check with your
cable provider and local listings for availability in your area.
Fans can also follow all the action with live audio on
AggieAthletics.com or locally on WTAW (1620 AM). The Alabama broadcast team's
call of the game can also be heard on Sirius channel 113 or XM channel 199.
Texas A&M (12-4, 2-1 SEC) will be looking to bounce back
after suffering its first SEC loss on Thursday night against No. 10/9 Florida.
The Aggies are 2-0 in true road games this season after defeating Houston at Hofheinz
Pavilion on Dec. 1 and Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Jan. 12.
The Aggies got solid performances from a pair of freshman
guards during their last outing as Alex Caruso finished with a team-high 12
points, including 11 after halftime, while fellow rookie J'Mychal Reese notched
10 points to crack the double-digit mark in scoring for the fifth time.
Alabama, meanwhile, comes into Saturday's contest with a 10-6
overall record and a 2-1 mark in SEC play. The Crimson Tide opened league play
with an 84-68 loss at No. 10/12 Missouri on Jan. 8 before notching back-to-back
victories over Tennessee and Mississippi State.
Head coach Anthony Grant is in his fourth season at the helm
of the program after a successful previous coaching stint at Virginia Commonwealth.
The all-time series between the schools stands at 6-3 in
Alabama's favor but the Aggies have won each of the last three meetings, most
recently an 86-78 overtime win in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 13, 2008.
- Alabama leads the all-time series with Texas A&M 6-3.
- Saturday's contest will be the tenth meeting between the
Aggies and the Crimson Tide on the hardwood and the first as members of the
- Alabama won the first six games in the series, but the
Aggies are currently on a three-game winning streak against the Crimson Tide.
- A&M head coach Billy Kennedy is 0-2 against Alabama.
- The Aggies have only won one game against the Tide in
Tuscaloosa, when the Aggies pulled an 86-78 overtime win in 2008.
- The two schools first met on December 19, 1958, when the
Bob Rodgers-led Aggies fell to Alabama 66-62 in the Birmingham Classic ... The
Aggies had to wait 40 years for their first win against the Tide when they won
65-58 in College Station on Dec. 1, 1998.
- Saturday's contest will be the fourth time the Aggies and
Tide have met in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama leading the series 2-1 at home.
- The Aggies will be looking to bounce back after suffering
their first SEC loss of the year on Thursday night ... Texas A&M is 3-0
following a loss this season.
- Texas A&M men's basketball is also searching for its
1,300th all-time victory on Saturday as the program enters the contest with an
all-time record of 1,299-1,181 in 101 seasons.
- Senior guard Elston Turner is the reigning SEC and
National Player of the Week after exploding for a career-best 40-point
performance during last Saturday's win at Kentucky ... The Sacramento, Calif.,
native enters the Alabama game ranking sixth in the SEC in scoring at 16.3
points per game and leading the league in 3-point shooting percentage at .424.
- Elston has reached double figures in scoring in all but
one game this season and 38 of 48 career games.
- As a team, the Aggies lead the SEC on 3-point field goal
percentage at .385.
- In addition to Elston, junior guard Fabyon Harris has been
a potent scoring threat for A&M over the last month ... The Chicago native
has posted double-figure points in five of his last seven games to boost his scoring
average to 9.9 on the year.
- The Aggies, who struggled rebounding during non-conference
play, have held the edge on the boards in each of their first three conference
games by a combined margin of 119-85.
FIRST-YEAR SEC SUCCESS
• Football - The Aggies'
inaugural run through the SEC on the gridiron culminated in an 11-2 record that
featured a victory over top-ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and 41-13 win
over Oklahoma in the 77th Annual AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic ... Aggie RS
freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel took home the coveted Heisman Trophy as the
Aggies finished ranked No. 5 in both the AP and USA Today polls.
• Volleyball - Under the
direction of head coach Laurie Corbelli, Texas A&M volleyball won the SEC
Western Division title with a 25-5 overall record and a 16-4 conference mark.
The team reached the NCAA second round of the NCAA Tournament before bowing out
to eventual National Champion Texas.
• Women's Soccer - The
Aggies' success continued onto the pitch as head coach G Guerrieri guided the
women's soccer team to a 19-4-1 record that featured in a 10-2-1 record in
league play which netted A&M the SEC Western Division crown.
• Men's Cross Country - Texas A&M senior Henry Lelei became
the school's first individual champion in the Southeastern Conference when he
claimed the men's cross country title with a time of 23:29.95 at Percy Warner
Park. Lelei was named SEC Runner of the Year and USTFCCCA Men's Athlete of the
Year en route to finishing fifth at the NCAA Championship.

COACH BILLY KENNEDY
- Billy Kennedy was named the 21st coach in Texas A&M
men's basketball history on May 16, 2011 ... he is a native of New Orleans and
has spent 14 seasons as a head coach, with a record of 237-201 ... over the
last four seasons, his teams have combined to post a record of 80-36.
- Over his last eight
years as a head coach, Kennedy's teams have averaged 20 wins a season, earned
four conference titles and made three trips to the postseason-two to the NCAA
Tournament and one in the NIT ... in addition, the Murray State squad which he
built before heading to College Station finished the 2012 season 31-2, won the
Ohio Valley title at 15-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA
- Kennedy's veteran staff in Aggieland has a combined 94
years of collegiate coaching experience and over the last 11 years has been a
part of 18 conference titles and 22 postseasons (15 NCAA, 7 NIT).
