COLLEGE STATION - As Texas A&M opens its indoor track
and field season this Saturday, December 8, with the Reveille Invitational at 4
p.m. in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium, the Aggies received high marks this week for
its current incoming class by Track &
Field News.
The monthly magazine released its annual recruiting class
rankings with the Texas A&M women No. 1 and the Aggie men No. 4.
In addition the January 2013 issue of Track & Field News offers a look at
how teams will fare at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next June and predicts a
sweep for A&M in taking both men's and women's titles.
The Aggies recently
swept NCAA Outdoor titles during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons and each squad
finished third a year ago under Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry, who is in his ninth season with the Aggie program.
Texas A&M topped the women's recruiting rankings over
Stanford, Florida, Georgia and California while the Aggie men were ranked
fourth behind Florida State, Ohio State, and Alabama with Penn State fifth.
Texas A&M was the only school to rank among the top five for both genders
in this year's rankings by Track &
Fields News.
Members of the highly touted A&M recruiting class
will be in action this weekend as the Aggies compete against Houston and UT-San
Antonio in a two-hour meet that features 11 events - 60m, 800m, Mile, 5000m, 60
Hurdles, 4x400 relay, high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and weight
throw.
A live webcast of the Reveille Invitational will be available
at Aggieathletics.com with live results available through flashresults.com.
For the NCAA Outdoor predictions the magazine tabbed the
Aggies as favorites to win six events, three events for the men and three for
the women.
Event winners selected for the A&M women included senior
Natasha Rogers defending her title in the 10,000 meters, the 4 x 100 relay and
freshman Shelbi Vaughan in the discus. On the men's side the A&M athletes predicted
for NCAA victories included Ameer Webb in the 200, Wayne Davis II in the 110
hurdles and Henry Lelei in the 3,000m steeplechase.
The Aggie men are predicted to top Florida, Auburn,
Oregon and Arkansas for the team title while the A&M women are favored over
Oregon, LSU, Kansas and Arizona when Drake University hosts the NCAA Championship
on its famed blue track next summer.
