COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's basketball
program announced Thursday the signing of Tonny Trocha-Morelos, a highly-recruited
center and native of Colombia.
"I am excited
to add Tonny to our program," Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy said. "He
will have an immediate impact to our program. He is a skilled big man who affects
the game on both ends of the floor."
A long and
athletic post, Trocha-Morelos made a good impression over the summer when he
played for the Colombian U18 Team at the FIBA Americas in Brazil, averaging 16
points and 10.2 rebounds per contest, both team-highs.
Additionally,
Morelos played for Team Latin America at the ADIDAS Nations tournament where he
led all players in blocked shots.
The
6-foot-10 center is a highly-prized prospect who received a four-star rating by
Rivals.com and was recruited by
Arizona, Baylor, Florida, Georgetown, Houston, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oregon,
Providence, Texas Tech and UCLA, among others.
Trocha-Morelos
joins an already impressive Texas A&M recruiting class that already includes
Davonte Fitzgerald (Tucker, Ga.) and Tavario Miller (Houston, Texas).
