COLLEGE STATION,
Texas - Four high school seniors signed national letters of intent to play
softball at Texas A&M, Aggie Head Coach Jo Evans announced today.
Reagan Boenker (Bryan, Texas), Abby Donnell (Wichita Falls,
Texas), April Ryan (Keller, Texas) and Suzanne White (Richmond, Texas) will
join the Aggies on the diamond in the fall of 2013.
"We are excited about our 2013 class," Evans said. "It is an
athletic and versatile class, with a good mix of power and speed. All four
athletes excel in the classroom and have been anxiously awaiting the
opportunity to become Aggies."
Boenker is a local product who has led her Bryan High School
team to a pair of District 12-5A championships (2010, 2012). She owns two
Academic All-District awards and was selected the district Newcomer of the Year
in 2010. The catcher-third baseman combo was named to the 2012 TGCA All-State
first team and was first team all-district in 2011. Boenker holds the Viking
records for home runs in a season, walks in a season and career home runs, and
has been named the BHS softball defensive MVP (2010), "Big Stick" award winner
(2011) and the team MVP (2012). She has also had a standout career with her
summer ball team, helping the Impact Gold to three consecutive top-three
finishes at nationals, where she posted .400+ batting averages the past two
seasons. Boenker is also a talented volleyball player and has been named
all-district for the past three years, while taking the 2011-12 Viking MVP
awards. She plays summer ball with the Impact Gold and Coach KC Jackson.
"We are excited to welcome a local Bryan High
student-athlete to our program," Evans said. "Reagan is incredibly athletic and
has the ability to play every infield position, and also does a great job
controlling the game from behind the plate. She is a powerful athlete with
great quickness and a very strong arm. Reagan plays for the Impact Gold
Organization, which has been a hotbed of talent for many years."
Donnell is the owner of 17 Rider High School records. The
left-handed pitcher started her high school career strong and was named the
District 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman in 2010 and was the
district's MVP in 2012. She has been named the Red River Diamond Dozen MVP
twice (2010, 12) and was the RRDD Pitcher in 2011. Donnell took ESPNHS Player
of the Week honors for the Midlands Region last season and is a three-time
Academic All-District selection. A two-time TSWA All-State selection (2010,
12), Donnell took TGCA All-State honors in 2012. She plays summer ball for the
Mizuno Impulse Gold and Coach Alex Lozoya.
"Abby has good speed on the base paths and will give us
another lefty hitter in our line-up," Evans said. "She has a nice swing and a
good feel for the game. She plays centerfield and pitches and will bring
versatility and athleticism to our line-up. Abby has played for Jason Gwynn and
Alex Lozoya in the Mizuno Impulse Organization for many years."
Ryan joins Donnell on Lozoya's Mizuno Impulse Gold team and
will graduate from Keller High School in 2013. The lefty hitter started her
high school career as a standout at Crowley High School, where she was named
the school's MVP and Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman while taking
District 8-4A First-Team and Newcomer of the Year honors. In 2012, Ryan was
named First-Team All-District 8-5A and the district's Defensive MVP.
"April is capable of playing middle infield and outfield,"
Evans said. "She is athletic and very competitive. She can slap, drag, and
drive the ball from the left side of the plate, and has good instincts for the
game. April plays at Keller High, coached by former Aggie softball alumnae,
Lindsey Wilhelmson Strong. She is also a teammate of Abby Donnell on the club
team, Mizuno Impulse."
White plays for Connie May, mother of Aggie catcher Meagan
May, on the Firecrackers summer ball team and will graduate from Foster High
School in 2013. She earned District 23-4A Co-Offensive Player of the Year
honors in 2011 and was named TGCA All-State the same year. The two-time Fort Bend Herald Player of the Year was
named the District 23-4A MVP last season and was selected the VYPE Magazine Preseason Top Softballer.
She has led her ASA Gold team to Nationals for the past two seasons and was an
ASA 14U Nationals qualifier in 2010. White is also a softball team captain, a
three-year Academic All-District honoree and a member of the National Honor
Society, the FFA, ELITE Spirit Group, PALS and FCA.
"Suzanne is a diehard Aggie and will be a great teammate,"
Evans said. "She will give us depth in the catching position and right handed
power at the plate. She is coached by Connie May and former Aggie All-American
Amanda Scarborough."
Evans' recruiting class will join the team in the fall of
2013 to prepare for the 2014 season. The Aggies begin the 2013 season at UCLA's
Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament on Feb. 8. To learn more about Texas A&M
