SAN ANTONIO -
Texas A&M senior women's golfer Sarah Beth Davis recorded five birdies to
help the Aggies move up to second place with a score of 571 (-5) Monday at the
Alamo Invitational hosted by UTSA.
"We got the putts that
didn't fall for us on the front to fall on the back," Texas A&M head coach
Trelle McCombs said. "I'm so proud of their resilience and patience. We could
have just thrown in the towel when things weren't falling but they did a really
good job of sticking to the task at hand."
Davis shot four-under par Monday
to bring her two-day score to 137 (-7) and place her first individually. Junior
Natalie Reeves followed closely with a score of 142 (-2) and in a 10th
place tie. Juniors Chelsea Mocio and Katerina Ruzickova each hold two-round totals
of 146 (+2) and senior Mary Michael Maggio rounded out the A&M team with a
score of 151 (+7) after 36 holes. Senior Aly Smith, who is competing as an
individual, shot four-over par during the second round to bring her two-day
score to 157 (+13).
"Sarah looks like a rock
star out there. She is very poised and has really matured over the last two
years," McCombs added. "The other girls are really stepping up and doing their
jobs as well. I'm so proud of what we are doing right now."
Oklahoma is leading the
tournament for the second day in a row with an astounding score of 563 (-13).
Host UTSA is in third with a score of 573 (-3), while SMU (+2), Tulane (+7),
Baylor (+7), East Carolina (+10), LSU (+12), Louisville (+15), Kentucky (+17),
Texas State (+22), Tennessee (+24), Colorado (+36), Nebraska (+46) and North
Texas (+48) bring up the rear.
The third and final round
of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning at 8:30 with the Aggies teeing off
from the first hole with Oklahoma and UTSA. Live scoring for the event can be
