KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Texas A&M women's golf seniors Mary Michael Maggio and Sarah Beth Davis shot one and two-under par, respectively, Friday during the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship to help the Aggies sit in a tie for first place.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee at the Holston Hills Country Club, has A&M tied atop the field alongside Penn State with a score of 291 (+3) after the first round. Tennessee and UTSA are tied for third place with a score of 292 (+4) and Purdue (+5), Florida State (+6), Northwestern (+6), Mississippi State (+9), Iowa State (+10), Furman (+12), East Carolina (+14), Miami (+20), Chattanooga (+23), Memphis (+25), James Madison (+26) and Kentucky (+35) fall behind successively.

Davis is currently tied for second place individually with two other golfers after opening the tournament with a round of 70 (-2). Maggio is close behind with a score of 71 (-1) placing her in a fifth-place tie. Maggio's performance included six birdies with four on the front nine. Davis played with a steady hand during much of the opening round as she carded four birdies.

Junior Natalie Reeves and sophomore Patricia Garcia each ended the day with a score of 75 (+3), while junior Chelsea Mocio rounded out the A&M contingency with a score of 79 (+7).

The second round of the tournament begins Saturday at 8 a.m. (CST). The Aggies are paired with Penn State and Tennessee and will tee off from the first hole beginning at 9:40 (CST). Live scoring for the event is available at GolfStat.com.
