SOUTH MAGNA, Utah - Texas A&M Head Softball Coach Jo Evans will be inducted into the Cypress High School Hall of Fame Thursday morning, Oct. 11.

Evans is a 1978 graduate of CHS where she excelled in several different sports including volleyball, tennis, basketball and track & field. She was a member of the state runner-up Pirate volleyball team in 1977 and took third at state in tennis doubles in the fall of 1977. Evans was a state champion in discus and set the state record in the event in the spring of 1978.

"I am honored to be inducted into the Cyprus High School Hall of Fame," Evans said. "I had such a terrific high school experience and enjoyed participating in volleyball, tennis, basketball, track & field, and club softball, as well as numerous clubs and organizations.  My coaches had a big impact on my life and helped me develop the leadership skills that serve me to this day.  It's been over 30 years, so I look forward to the experience of being back on campus."

Upon graduation from CHS, Evans received a softball scholarship from the University of Utah where she earned High Country All-Conference honors in 1982, was named an ASA All-American in Women's Class-A Nationals, and led the Utes to a Women's College World Series (WCWS) appearance.

Evans began her coaching career at Florida State, where she was an assistant coach for two years before being named the head coach and Colorado State where she would stay for four years. In her final two seasons with the Rams, she was named the High Country Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Evans returned to Utah in 1991, this time as the team's skipper, and remained there until her 1996 departure to A&M. She led the Utes to back-to-back Western Athletic Conference titles and two WCWS appearances. In Evans' final WCWS trip with Utah in 1994, the team rewrote the history books for most wins (51), best finish in the WCWS (5^th), highest national ranking (7^th) and best winning percentage (.797) among other accolades. Evans earned her second WAC Coach of the Year award and was also selected as the West Region Coach of the Year by her peers that season.

Heading into her 17^th season at A&M, Evans' honors have continued to multiply. With the Cypress High graduate at the helm, the Aggies have enjoyed 12 NCAA postseason appearances, including back-to-back trips to the WCWS in 2007-08. In 2008 A&M ended the season as the national runners-up with Big 13 regular season and tournament titles in hand. The team also took the conference title in 2005. Evans' Aggies have posted 16-straight 30-win seasons, including seven 40-win seasons. A&M has compiled an impressive 630-304-2 (.674) record under Evans, who has more than 900 career wins as a Division I head coach.

Evans is one of the all-time winningest Division I softball coaches and is one of just a handful of active head coaches to have taken multiple programs to the WCWS.

The Cypress High School Hall of Fame and Pirate Legend Assembly will take place at 9:30 a.m. (Central) on Thursday, Oct. 11, in South Magna, Utah.
