Texas A&M senior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar (pronounced
KEEN-tah-nar) advanced to the consolation finals in the singles at the
Riviera/ITA All-American Championships today but then withdrew due to an
injury.
Aggie freshmen Stefania Hristov and Anna Mamalat are competing at
the Rice Invitational in Houston this weekend. Hristov will play in Sunday's
singles final after defeating Jessica Kahts of Texas State, 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2
seed Klaudia Gawlik of McNeese State, 6-1, 6-3. Hristov will face No. 1 seed
and 34th-ranked Edyta Cieplucha of SMU in the finals Sunday at 10
a.m.
Cieplucha defeated Mamalat in the first round of singles, 4-6,
6-2, 6-4. Mamalat then fell to Mary Jeremiah of LSU, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 in the
first round of the consolation bracket. Mamalat faces Jessica Kahts of Texas
State, Sunday at 10 a.m.
Hristov and Mamalat have reached the finals in doubles and will
face Cieplucha and Heidi Steward at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Aggie duo advanced
by defeating Hristina Dishkova and Elena Fayner of SMU, 8-5 in the first round
and then defeating Solo Zinko and Stephanie Nguyen of Rice, 8-4, in the
semifinals
