PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Texas A&M senior Cristina
Sanchez-Quintanar is the No. 1 seed in the 32-player singles main draw at the Riviera/ITA
All-American Championships, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced when
it released the bracket today.
Ranked a school-record No. 4 in the preseason ITA singles
rankings, Sanchez-Quintanar will take on one of eight players to advance from
the qualifying draw Thursday at 10:45 a.m. (PT) at the Riviera Tennis Club.
A&M junior Cristina Stancu also will be competing in the
singles main draw and will face No. 2 seed and fifth-ranked Zsofi Susanyi of
California, Thursday at 12:30 p.m. (PT).
Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation
champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor
Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in Flushing, N.Y.
A&M's Wen Sun and Nazari Urbina were eliminated from the
qualifying draw earlier today. The pair fell to Melissa Kopinshi and Rachael
White of Illinois, 8-5, in the round of 16. Sanchez-Quintanar and Stancu were
slated to play Monica Pezzotti and Dylan Windom of Kansas, in the doubles back draw,
but the match was not played.
Sun also was eliminated in singles after falling to Li Xi of
Virginia, 6-2, 7-5, in the round of 16 of the qualifying back draw.
