Mike
Caruso is in his 24th year with the Texas A&M Athletic
Department. He currently serves as Associate Athletic Director for Events and
Game Operations. He was promoted to
Associate Athletic Director in February of 2000 after serving the prior seven years
as Assistant Athletic Director for Promotions and Operations. Previously, he worked in the athletic
promotions office.
Caruso directs all 21 of the Aggie sports in event management and game operations
as well as annual NCAA Regional and National Championships.
He
is a member of the International Association of Venue Managers and the Stadium
Managers Association. He has been
associated with National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security since
2008 with curriculum development and instructing at national training workshops
for Sport Event Risk Management courses as well as a trainer for TEEX /
National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center in their Sports and
Special Events Incident Management workshops.
Caruso earned his master's degree in physical education from the University of
Nebraska-Omaha in 1973 and received a bachelor's degree in history and physical
education from Creighton University in 1971. While at Creighton as a
scholarship athlete, Caruso played basketball under legendary Coach Eddie
Sutton.
He
is a native of Oakland, California also starring in basketball for Bishop O' Dowd
High School leading them to a state championship his senior year (37-2).
Before coming to A&M in 1987, Caruso served as head basketball coach and
assistant to the athletic director at Elmhurst
College (Chicago) from 1981-87. He was an assistant
basketball coach at Creighton from 1974-81 after serving as athletic director
and head basketball coach at Cathedral
High School in Omaha, Neb.,
in 1973-74.
Caruso and his wife, Jackie, have three children, Megan (20), Alex (18) and
Emily (16).
