Reed Arena, a 12,989-seat special events center located on the west side of campus, opened in the fall of 1998.
Reed Arena serves as the home for Texas A&M men's and women's basketball teams after 44 years in G. Rollie White Coliseum for the men and 24 seasons for the women. Complete with the amenities of a NBA arena and the atmosphere of a collegiate setting, Reed Arena provides A&M with one of the best basketball arenas in the southwest and provides first-class accommodations not only for Aggie basketball but for major concerts, commencement ceremonies and a variety of other events.
The arena is named for Houston veterinarian Dr. Chester J. Reed, a 1947 graduate of A&M, and his wife, Billie Jean. In 1986, the Reeds contributed 265 acres of undeveloped land west of Houston to the university, forming the nucleus of assets used to fund the facility.
