COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The White team rode to a 12-9 victory over Maroon in the Texas A&M Equestrian team’s annual Maroon & White Scrimmage, Friday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

The hunter seat squad started the competition in the South Arena, combining both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences into the same pattern for riders competing in both events. White sped ahead to a 4-1 lead after the first five matchups and sealed the deal with a 7-4 hunt seat victory over Maroon.

Ellie Wilkins, Paige Russell, Kat Barkema and Marlena Parker earned points for Maroon, while Alyssa Martin, Camilla Cook, Hannah Williams, Kayla Briel, Kimmy Saul, Avery Farley and Anna Rea topped their competitors to give White the win.

“I was really impressed with some of the improvements I saw from last season,” Associate Head Coach Linzy Woolf said. “There was also lots of new talent in the arena. After some great performances today, I’m really looking forward to this season.”

Horsemanship also started at noon, competing in the warm-up arena. Maroon scored the first two points when Molli Jacobs and Caroline Ammons outscored their opponents, but four straight wins by White gave the latter the victory. Jordan Soechting, Alyssa Soechting, Rachel Lucht and Laura Brainard each earned wins for White. Maroon’s Logan Pluhar won the final match-up, but it wasn’t enough as White took a 4-3 horsemanship win and an 11-7 overall lead.

The decision came down to the reining competition, where Maroon would need to sweep for an overall win. The event saw two ties, however and White took a final 12-9 victory. Ashley Dotson and Sarah McEntire each had wins for Maroon, and Hannah Jechow earned a point for White.

The Aggies officially begin the season on Oct. 5 at Kansas State, before hosting SMU in the season home opener on Oct. 11. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
