Jones Earns NCAA Trip with Zones Win

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Texas A&M sophomore Hayden Jones became the ninth Aggie to earn a trip to the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships with a win on the one-meter dive on Friday at the NCAA Zone D Championships at the University of Iowa.

Jones, from Spring, Texas, will join fellow diver Grant Nel and seven of his swimming teammates at the 2012 national meet, which will be contested in Federal Way, Wash., March 22-24.
 
Jones edged out Nel for the win on Friday with a 12-dive score of 811.10, while Nel took runner-up honors with 779.35 points. Also advancing to the 18-diver final were sophomore Adam Ruiz (13th, 595.65) and senior Paul Xiques (17th, 550.15). Sophomore Antonio Page-Kahn was 24th in the prelim with 247.95.
 
Ruiz, Xiques and Page-Kahn have one more chance to advance to the NCAA Championships when they compete in the platform dive on Saturday.
