COLLEGE STATION --- Texas A&M diving coaches Jay and Wendy Lerew will host a free springboard and platform diving clinic on Sunday afternoon at the TAMU Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Lerews, who are both former U.S. Diving National Team coaches, welcome boys and girls from ages 6-13 for the clinic that will run from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Experience in gymnastics, cheer, trampoline or dance is positive, but all levels of interest in diving are welcomed. Participants should come ready to dive and bring a towel, and parents can park in the parking garage adjacent to the Student Rec Center and enter through the Rec lobby.
"There's never been a diving program in this area, and we think it's a great opportunity to make the Bryan-College Station a nationally-recognized training area for springboard and platform diving," said Wendy Lerew, who was a two-time Olympian for Canada and an All-American diver at Florida State.
The clinic's itinerary features a one-hour diving session instructed by the Lerews, a world-class diving show featuring Australian National Champions Jaele Patrick and Grant Nel and Canadian National Team members Cam McLean and Janie Potvin who are all members of the Aggie Diving team, and a brief Q&A session with the Lerews regarding Texas A&M Diving Club opportunities.
Parents are invited to stay and experience diving with their youngsters while being comfortably seated in the Student Rec Natatorium, which has been the home of numerous national and international swimming and diving competitions, including the 2010 AT&T U.S. Diving National Championships.
Participants are requested (but not required) to RSVP to Coach Wendy Lerew at WLerew@aol.com.
