COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M athletics program is in 17th place in the first spring standings of the Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings which were released Friday.
The first spring standings include 161 points compiled by the Aggie women's golf seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club. The ninth place finish for the men's tennis team and the 33rd place finish for the women's tennis team.
The latest standings included results from seven spring sports: women's golf, women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, women's tennis, men's tennis, men's volleyball and women's water polo.
The Aggies received 72 points for women's golf, 64 points for men's tennis, and 25 points for women's tennis.
The highest overall finish in Texas A&M history in the Directors' Cup standings was 2009-10 with a 6th place finish last year.
The remaining Texas A&M sports with points to be determine include outdoor track and field where Texas A&M is the two-time defending national champion in both women's and men's outdoor track and field. The Texas A&M track and field squads are ranked No. 1 on the men's side and No. 2 on the women's side in the latest rankings and the NCAA Championships will be conducted in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11. The men's golf team just finished ninth at the NCAA Championships held in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The women's softball team reached the NCAA Super Regionals and the Aggie baseball team is hosting the NCAA College Station Regional beginning today.
The next spring standings update will be released on Friday, June 17.
