COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 16 Texas A&M (17-5, 7-1) will face off with LSU on Big Monday at 8:00 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2 at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La. Calling the action will be the duo of Pam Ward and Rebecca Lobo nationally on ESPN2. The Aggies have matched the best eight-game conference start under Blair set in the 2010-2011 national championship season.
LSU and A&M have faced off 11 times prior to Monday's match-up, LSU hold the series advantage 7-4 overall and 4-1 in Baton Rouge. Monday will be the first face-off since Dec. 20 1994 in College Station that A&M won 78-52, claiming three straight in the series.
The Aggies are currently on a five game win streak, winning by an average of 23 points in the streak. In A&M seven SEC wins the margin of victory has been 23.7 points.
The maroon and white look to continue the win streak following Thursday's hard fought 60-52 win over Vanderbilt at Reed Arena. The Aggies were led by freshman Courtney Walker's 20 points, 14 came in the second half when the home team needed them the most. Walker was the only Aggie in double figures, but junior Kelsey Bone and seniors Adrienne Pratcher and Kristi Bellock chipped in 8 points help push the Aggies past the Commodores. After trailing at half-time A&M shot 15-for-21 from the floor in the second half, outscoring Vanderbilt 36-25 after the break.
Pratcher is leading the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio according to the latest NCAA stats release on Jan. 31. The Aggies lead the SEC in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and assists per game heading into the matchup with LSU. Individually, Bone leads the SEC in rebounding and field goal percentage (second nationally) and places third in scoring.
Monday will be a homecoming for the two Louisiana natives on the Aggie team, Bellock is from nearby St. Rose (John Curtis Christian School) and sophomore Tori Scott hailing from Marrero (John Ehret HS). Additionally Assistant Coach Bob Starkey worked at LSU for over 20 seasons working with both the men's and women's basketball programs in his time in Baton Rouge. Starkey worked with several LSU greats including Chris Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles.
