COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The NCAA National Champion Texas A&M women's basketball team is among the nominees announced for the 2011 ESPYs, co-presented by Capital One and Castrol EDGE.
The Aggies are nominated for Best Team following their first national championship in program history in their first-ever trip to the NCAA Women's Final Four.
Fans have the chance to select the Aggies the winner for Best Team by voting online or by mobile device at espn.com/espys or on the ESPN facebook page: facebook.com/espn. Voting has begun and continues through July 9 at 10:59 p.m. (CT).
The ESPYs take place on Wednesday, July 13 at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles and will be hosted by Seth Meyers. The ESPYs are broadcast live at 8 p.m. (CT) on ESPN/ESPNHD. A&M head coach Gary Blair and select members of the team have been invited to attend.
The ESPYs, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, gather top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in athletics by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances.
The ESPYs and related events benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research in memory of the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide.
