COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M’s Davonte Fitzgerald has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Fitzgerald, a 6-foot-7, 201-pound freshman forward from Atlanta, Ga., earned the weekly honor after averaging 16.5 points on nearly 60 percent shooting from the field and 3.5 rebounds against South Carolina and Mississippi State.

The Aggie rookie went 6-for-7 from the floor to contribute 13 points with three rebounds in a Texas A&M win over South Carolina last Wednesday.  Returning to the court on Saturday at Mississippi State, Fitzgerald produced his biggest offensive output of the season by finishing with a career-high 20 points with four rebounds while logging a personal best 32 minutes against the Bulldogs.

Fitzgerald has played in all 17 games this season and is averaging 13 points per game during SEC play to rank sixth among league freshman.
