COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men’s basketball team will look to close out 2013 on a winning note Tuesday night when it hosts North Texas in a 4:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve contest inside Reed Arena.

The Aggies (8-3) are a perfect 8-0 on their home court this season as they continue a trend of dominance against non-conference opponents at Reed Arena. Inside the friendly confines of the facility, A&M is 116-11 (.913) all-time against non-league foes.

The match-up will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest with Ron Thulin (play-by-play) and Jim Haller (commentary) calling all the action. Fans are encouraged to check with their cable provider for availability and channel listings in their area.

Additionally, the game can be heard on the Texas A&M Sports Network with local coverage in the Bryan-College Station area on The Zone (1150 AM).

Tuesday’s contest is part of the Holiday Hoops promotion presented by Texas A&M Physicians which offers fans discounted $5 tickets to Aggie men’s games. Holiday Hoops runs through A&M’s SEC opening match-up with Arkansas on Jan. 8.

Additionally, fans can get coupons for free parking at Aggie men’s games from Wells Fargo throughout Holiday Hoops. A flyer for the promotion can be picked up from any Wells Fargo location in Bryan/ College Station and given to the parking attendants at Reed to receive free parking.

Students looking to catch a ride to the game can jump onboard the Aggie Hoops bus which will run Route 01 beginning a few hours before tipoff and throughout the game. This route runs by the Quad, close to the dorms on the south side of campus and will drop students off at the corner of Kimbrough by the West Campus Garage, across the street from Reed Arena.

The Mean Green comes to Aggieland with a 7-5 record this season and riding the confidence of back-to-back victories over Wayland Baptist and Central Arkansas. Second-year head coach Tony Benford holds a 19-25 record in two seasons as a head coach after stints as an assistant at Marquette, Nebraska, UTEP, Arizona State and New Mexico.

Guards Alzee Williams and Jordan Williams pace UNT offensively, averaging 14.8 and 11.6 points per game, respectively.

GREEN COMING INTO HIS OWN AS A JUNIOR

For his first two seasons on the Aggie roster Jordan Green was regarded as an outstanding teammate and a player who showed flashes of being a contributor on the court but could not maintain that solid level of play on consistent basis. Green seems to have turned a corner this season as has been one of the leaders both on and off the court during the Aggies' strong start to the season.

The Flower Mound, Texas, native has started each game this season and has shown marked improvement in virtually every offensive category. Through 11 games this season, Green ranks fourth among the Aggies in scoring by maintaining a 9.0 point-per-game clip, while shooting an impressive .581 from the field. Additionally, he paces A&M in free throw shooting by holding a .733 mark at the charity stripe.

Perhaps Green's biggest moment of the year thus far came during Nov. 15th's victory over Rice as he broke a 65-65 tie with a game-winning 3-pointer that came with only 6.7 seconds left in the contest.

AGGIES REVIVING THE ART OF THE BLOCKED SHOT

The improved athleticism of the Aggies was on display during Texas A&M's win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 11 as Texas A&M recorded a school-record 12 blocks.

Seven Aggies recorded at least one swat in the contest (Alex Caruso-3, Jamal Jones-2, Kourtney Roberson-2, Antwan Space-2, Davonte Fitzgerald-1, Fabyon Harris-1, Dylan Johns-1) as the total topped the previous record of 11 which has been set twice, most recently against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Dec. 21, 1997. A&M has topped the 10-block mark two more times this season - vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11/26) and Houston (12/4).

As a team, the Aggies ranked last in the SEC with 98 blocked shots (3.0 per game) last season. However, this season's new-look A&M team is beginning to change that trend and has already notched 62 blocks in just five games (5.6 per game).
