Two Aggies Selected on Day Two of MLB Draft

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Seniors Mikey Reynolds and Kyle Martin were both selected on the second day of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Friday.

Reynolds was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round with the 163rd overall pick. Martin was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round with the 263rd overall selection.

Reynolds earned All-SEC Second Team recognition in 2013, hitting .342 with 43 runs, 15 doubles, one triple, one home run, 25 RBI and 19 stolen bases. He also picked up NCAA Corvallis Regional All-Tournament honors. During the season he rattled off a school-record 45-game streak of reaching base at least once via hit, hit-by-pitch or walk and posted hit streaks of 22 games and 15 games. Reynolds earned All-Big 12 recognition in his first season in Aggieland, batting .306 with 23 RBI and 21 stolen bases as a junior.

Reynolds was previously selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 30th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft and the New York Yankees in 20th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Martin finished his career ranked third on the Aggies’ all-time appearance list, pitching in 98 games. He went 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 58.2 innings as a senior in 2013. Last year, Martin went 6-5 with seven saves and a 3.20 ERA in 56.1 innings and garnered All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Martin was previously selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 35th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Aggies’ signee Casey Shane, a right-handed pitcher from Centennial High School in Burleson, Texas was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the sixth round with the 171st overall pick.
