Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Spring Opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas A&M volleyball team did not drop a set while going 4-0 in its first exhibition tournament of the spring season.

The Aggies opened the Texas State Tournament at Strahan Coliseum by defeating Lamar, 25-7, 25-14, and followed with a 25-15, 25-18 victory over UTSA.

A&M then knocked off St. Edward's, 25-18, 25-13, before closing out the tournament with a 25-17, 29-27 victory over 2011 NCAA participant and defending Southland Conference regular season and tournament champion Texas State.

The Aggies return 11 letterwinners -- including four starters plus the libero -- from the 2011 squad that finished 23-8 after advancing to the NCAA Championship second round.

A&M will compete in two more tournaments during the spring, playing at the at F.A.S.T. Tournament at Reliant Center in Houston on March 31 and at the College Showcase, to be held at the Dallas Convention Center on April 21.

Note: Reservations are still being accepted for the Texas A&M Volleyball Annual Awards Banquet to be held Sunday, April 22 at the Zone Club at Kyle Field beginning at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Banquet tickets are $20 each and include lunch. Parking will be available in Lot 62 in front of Kyle Field.
