The 2012 Folklife Festival’s program is Campus and Community: Public and Land-grant Universities and the USDA at 150, which celebrates the 150-year-long partnership of the universities, the USDA and their communities. The festival and all events are free to the public.
More than 25 public land-grant universities will participate in this year’s festival, including the following SEC schools: Texas A&M, the University of Arkansas, the University of Florida, the University of Kentucky, the University of Missouri and the University of Tennessee.
Campus and Community focuses on four themes that encompass the work of the universities and the USDA: reinventing agriculture, sustainable solutions, transforming communities and building on tradition. Visitors can interact with university and USDA professors, students, staff and community members in exhibits that highlight how land-grant universities and the USDA are putting research into action each and every day.
PAST EVENTS
SEC Reception for Texas A&M and Missouri
June 6th • 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. • JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead
The event, which is open to all SEC alumni and friends in the Atlanta area, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead.
We chose to showcase our campuses in Atlanta -- the heart of SEC country and home to many alumni from all soon-to-be 14 SEC schools. We believe this is a terrific opportunity to introduce Texas A&M and Mizzou to the SEC – its fans, communities and member institutions. It will also give people a chance to get to know more about our two great institutions – everything from our academics and athletics to our history of service and traditions.
Invited guests and participants include presidents/chancellors, athletic directors, coaches, spirit squads and mascots, as well as alumni representatives from all 14 SEC schools. The event will include notable speakers/attendees from both institutions, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, compelling videos, a cocktail reception, exhibit booths, autograph and photo sessions, mementos and much more. The event is free, but attendees must register by Friday, June 1 at http://www.aggienetwork.com/sec-reception-atlanta/.
Not only will we guarantee everyone a great time, but we know it will go a long way toward building lasting relationships as Texas A&M and Missouri become part of the best athletic conference in the country.
