FORT WORTH – Texas A&M’s Anna Mamalat and Cristina Stancu have both reached the quarterfinals in singles and Stancu and partner Stefania Hristov have advanced to the doubles quarterfinals following today’s action at the women’s ITA/USTA Texas Regional Championships at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.

Mamalat, a sophomore from Philadelphia, pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament and posted the highest ranked win of her career after knocking off top-seeded and 10th-ranked Breaunna Addison of Texas, 7-5, 6-1, to reach the quarterfinals. Mamalat, who defeated Jacobea Junger of UTSA, 6-0, 6-7, 6-2 in the round of 32 earlier in the day to set up the showdown against Addison, will face No. 16 seed Kiah Gennerette of Baylor Saturday at 1 p.m.

Stancu, the No. 2 seed in singles, has yet to drop a game in three matches at the tournament. Today the senior from Romania defeated Kim Anicete of Rice, 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 32 and then blanked No. 14 seed Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech, 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals. Stancu will face No. 6 seed Jordaan Sanford of Baylor, Saturday at 1 p.m.

Stancu and Hristov posted an 8-4 victory over Generette and Jordaan Sanford to advance to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw. The top-seeded tandem will face No. 5 seed Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde of Texas Tech Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Hristov reached the round of 16 in the singles draw after defeating No. 8 seed Ratmika Batra of Texas in the round of 32. Hristov, however but was unable join Mamalat and Stancu in the quarterfinals after falling to 12th-seeded Victoria Kisialeva of Baylor, 6-2, 6-1.

In other action, sophomore Paula Deheza and freshmen Jana McCord  and Rutaja Bhosale all fell in the round of 32. Deheza was eliminated after falling to No. 4 seed Stefanie Tan of TCU, 6-1, 6-0. McCord suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback to No. 16 seed Gennerette and Bhosale fell to No. 3 seed Natalie Beazant of Rice, 6-3, 6-0.

Deheza and freshman Mason Strickland have reached the consolation quarterfinals in doubles after defeating Andi Botha and Ivana Katavic of Incarnate Word, 7-6, today. They will face Daniela Garcia and Jacobea Junger of UTSA Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The regional features some of the top players from across the state, with the winners advancing to face other regional winners across the country at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, N.Y. Stancu has already earned a berth in singles at the national indoor championships after reaching the semifinals at the prestigious Riviera/ITA All-American Championships earlier this month in California.
