COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Several members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team have garnered Big 12 Conference individual champion titles after accumulating the most wins at their respective positions, the league office announced today.

Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar (pronounced keen-tah-nar) is the runaway Big 12 No. 1 singles champion after posting a 9-0 record in conference matches. Eight of her nine victories were in straight sets.

The junior from Campo de Criptana, Spain, boasts a 32-5 overall singles mark, tying for fourth in the A&M records for most victories in a season. A two-time Big 12 Player of the Week selection, Sanchez-Quintanar is 19-1 in dual matches only and is the highest nationally ranked singles player in the conference, coming in at No. 8 this week. Earlier this season, Sanchez-Quintanar became the highest ranked singles player in school history with a No. 4 showing on Feb. 28.

Wen Sun, a junior from Dalian, China, is the Big 12 No. 3 singles champion after going 8-1 in conference matches. She is ranked No. 81 in the nation and is 16-4 in dual matches and 22-10 overall.

Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun also teamed to capture a share of the Big 12 No. 1 doubles title.  The pair upset then 39th-ranked Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma in the last match of the regular season to finish 7-2 and tie the Sooner tandem and Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo of Texas Tech for most wins at the No. 1 line.

Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun are 14-6 in dual matches at No. 1 and 19-8 overall. They jumped from No. 50 to a season-high No. 38 in this week's national doubles rankings.

A&M juniors Janelle Cuthbertson (Perth, Australia) and Nazari Urbina (Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico) also have earned conference honors, as they are the Big 12 No. 2 doubles co-champions after going 7-0 and tying Mia Lancaster and Abbi Melrose of Oklahoma for most wins.

Cuthbertson, who missed two Big 12 matches with an injury, and Urbina enter the Big 12 Championship tournament riding a 14-match winning streak. They are 14-1 in dual matches as well as 14-1 overall.

Texas A&M hosts the men's and women's Big 12 Tennis Championships, Thursday-Sunday, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The 19th-ranked Aggie women finished the Big 12 season in a three-way tie for second place with a 7-2 record and are the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Aggies open against No. 6 seed Kansas State on Friday at 3 p.m.
