COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 14 Texas A&M softball team placed four student-athletes on the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 first team, the conference office announced today.

Senior Kelsea Orsak (Pearland, Texas), junior Sydney Shannon (Marlow, Okla.), and sophomores Cassie Tysarczyk (San Antonio, Texas) and Kaydee Rayburn (Waller, Texas) were selected to the league's academic first team for their efforts in the classroom and on the field.

First-team selections were required to maintain a 3.20-or-higher GPA to be honored by the conference. This is the third Big 12 academic award for Orsak, who was selected to the Academic All-Big 12 second team for the past two seasons. Shannon, Tysarczyk and Rayburn are each first-time honorees.

The Aggies begin a three-game nonconference series at Boise State today, with first pitch at the Mountain Cove Softball Field set for 5 p.m. CST. Each game this weekend will be on 95.1-3 The Zone HD.
