SEC Freshman of the Year honors for Jennifer Madu and LaQue Moen-Davis

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s Jennifer Madu and LaQue Moen-Davis were selected for SEC Outdoor women’s Freshman of the Year honors via voting by the conference coaches while Aggie head coach Pat Henry received the women’s Coach of the Year honor.

In addition A&M had 14 athletes (seven men, seven women) named to the All-SEC First Team as well as four chosen for the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Coach Henry collects his fourth SEC Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year and first with Texas A&M. Overall, this year’s honor is the 16th Coach of the Year Henry has received between men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field within the SEC. The Aggie women scored 117 points to win its first-ever SEC team title in their first year as a member of the SEC.

Madu finished second in the SEC 100 final with a career best time of 11.41 and anchored the Aggie 4x100 to a 43.43 victory. Madu also placed third in the SEC triple jump with a mark of 42-9.5 to total 16.5 points towards the 117 A&M scored in winning the team title.

Moen-Davis won the SEC long jump with a wind-aided leap of 21-6 and placed second in the SEC triple jump with a windy 44-9.25 while her series included a wind-legal 44-9. Moen-Davis scored 18 points in the SEC meet that the Aggies won by five points.

Other conference honors for the men included Runner of the Year, Isiah Young, Mississippi; Field Athlete of the Year, Damar Forbes, LSU; Freshman Runner of the Year, Jimmy Clark, Florida; Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, Maicel Uibo, Georgia; Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Nathanael Franks, Arkansas; and Coach of the Year, Chris Bucknam, Arkansas.

Women’s conference honors also included Runner of the Year, Kimberlyn Duncan, LSU; Field Athlete of the Year, Makeba Alcide, Arkansas; Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Chelsea Oswald, Kentucky.

Named to the men’s All-SEC First Team from Texas A&M were Ricky Babineaux, Aldrich Bailey, Jr., Wayne Davis II, Sam Humphreys, Henry Lelei, Deon Lendore and Carlyle Roudette. Ameer Webb was named to the All-SEC Second Team.

Aggies on the women’s All-SEC First Team included Kamaria Brown, Donique’ Flemings, LaQue Moen-Davis, Jennifer Madu, Ashton Purvis, LaKeidra Stewart and Shelbi Vaughan.

The SEC All-Freshman team included Hector Hernandez (800m), Jennifer Madu (100m), LaQue Moen-Davis (Long Jump & Triple Jump) and Shelbi Vaughan (Discus).
