Larson Seeks Olympic Berth on Wednesday

OMAHA, Neb. --- Texas A&M sophomore Breeja Larson (Mesa, Ariz.) will go for a London Olympics berth on Wednesday after advancing through two rounds of 100-meter breaststroke qualifying on Tuesday at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Larson enters Wednesday's final as the No. 3 seed behind 2008 Olympian Rebecca Soni and current world record holder Jessica Hardy. Larson won the first heat of the 100 breast semifinals in a time of 1:07.00, while Soni won the second heat in 1:05.82 and trailed closely by Hardy in 1:06.88. Also advancing to the final were Ashley Wanland, Annie Chandler, Micah Lawrence, Ellyn Baumgardner and Emily McClellan.

Fellow sophomore Caroline McElhany (Friendswood, Texas) finished eighth in the women's 100-meter butterfly final with a time of 58.87. Advancing to London from the race were Dana Vollmer and Claire Donahue.

In other action involving Aggies: senior John Ariens posted a time of 57.01 in the men's 100 backstroke; sophomore Sarah Henry placed 13th in the women's 400 freestyle in 4:11.31; junior Maureen McLaine posted a time of 4:15.10 in the 400 free; sophomore Cammile Adams posted a time of 4:15.91 in the 400 free; senior Megan Latone posted a time of 1:03.12 in the 100 backstroke; junior Meagan Hairston posted a time of 1:04.25 in the 100 back; sophomore Wylie Escobedo posted a time of 1:04.74 in the 100 back; and senior Anna Heller posted a time of 1:04.84 in the 100 back.
